Tobacco Weed Risk Assessment Tool
Instructions:
- create a folder on your desktop labeled “Tobacco Weed Management”
- Download the risk tool to your computer, a Microsoft Excel file, by clicking on this link, Tobacco Weed Risk Assessment Tool.
- open the “downloads” folder on your computer and search for the file name WeedRisk-NCTobacco. Add .xlsm to the end of WeedRisk-NCTobacco
- Copy and Paste the WeedRisk-NCTobacco file to the newly created “Tobacco Weed Management” folder on your desktop.
- Open the WeedRisk-NCTobacco file. Be sure to click the “Enable Editing” icon that may appear at the top of the file once it opens. Click the “Enable Content” icon that then appears at the top of the screen.
- A title window will appear that reads “Weed Risk Management Tool – NC Tobacco”, press the Enter button at the bottom.
- On the left side of the input page there are management options that include planting date, previous crop grown, weed control success in previous crop, general weed pressure estimate, irrigation capacity, and weed practices that you plan to use in the upcoming tobacco crop that will be planted in this scenario. As you enter or change information, you will notice a change in the Weed Pressure Index at the top of the input page and a change in the Estimated Production Cost.
- Once you have entered your management information and evaluated the estimated weed risk for yield loss and production cost, press the “Create Production Log” button. Enter a unique name (specific to the field or land tract you have in mind) and then press the “Create” button. The name you enter will be used to name a new budget log worksheet in the Microsoft Excel file “Tobacco_Logs.xlsx”.
- The “Tobacco_Logs.xlsx” file can be found in the “Tobacco Weed Management” folder you created earlier and copied the risk tool too. Note, the “Tobacco_Logs.xlsx” file will not exist until you create your first production log. Open the “Tobacco Logs” file to access the budget log you just created. The log worksheet contains the information you entered in the risk tool, the estimated budget, and input fields to record crop management and growth information.
- Additional budgets will be merged into the “Tobacco Logs” file, so be sure to name each budget differently. Budgets can be accessed at the bottom of the homepage of the “Tobacco Logs” file.
