Description:

Do you enjoy gardening and talking with others about it? Do you have a passion for making a difference in your community? Well consider becoming part of the Extension Master Gardener Volunteers! To become a certified Extension Master Gardener, volunteers begin by receiving horticulture and plant science training from their local Cooperative Extension Center through a 13-week course given by a variety of local speakers and extension personnel. They then share this knowledge with their community by teaching others research based information on horticulture related issues and assisting with community beautification projects. In addition, Master Gardener Volunteers also participate in a wide variety of other activities and events. They host a community Flower and Garden Show each spring, an annual Fall Plant Sale, maintain a local landscaping demonstration garden, propagate and manage a greenhouse full of different plant varieties, and partner with local 4-H gardening clubs and elementary schools.
The Currituck County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers are currently accepting applications for individuals to become volunteers. Those with a strong interest in both gardening and their community are encouraged to apply. Applicants should be comfortable working with a diverse group of people and willing to share their knowledge with both new and experienced gardeners. Course classes begin on February 7, 2017 and will meet every Tuesday from 9 am to 12 noon ending around May 9, 2017. The fee for the class is $100 which includes the course book, a name tag, and other course supplies.
If you have questions or would like more information concerning the Currituck Extension Master Gardener Volunteers, please contact Sarah Watts at 252-232-2262, by email at sewatts@ncsu.edu, or by visiting the Currituck County Extension Office.
