It can be difficult if you are trying to lose or maintain your weight during any time of the year, but it can be especially hard during the holiday season. There are so many more temptations than usual as well as the stress from the holidays can also lead you to not make the best decisions. It is okay to enjoy the holiday season and not let it affect your health. The main thing to remember is everything in moderation and make sure you are getting a variety of nutrients by including the variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. Instead of worrying about staying away from high fat or high carbohydrate foods, you simply need to keep track of your total calories. You need to burn more calories than you consume. If you feel that you can eat in moderation, then another simple tip would be to plan meals and snacks ahead of time, so you don’t overeat. The more plain the food is, the healthier it will be. This does not mean that it won’t taste good, but it is usually prepared through a healthier cooking method instead of frying foods. When preparing foods, a good rule of thumb is to reduce, substitute, or eliminate any ingredients that you can make changes to or don’t need. Splitting meals or even desserts can help you reduce calories. But, no matter what, we do not recommend skipping meals because this messes with your metabolism as well as your blood sugar if you are diabetic.
