Wow, we needed the rain! Tobacco has had some issues with target spot, blank shank already, drought, heat, then rain with humidity spells disease in our counties.

Tobacco Tour on July 21 at the Oxford Research Station from 9 a.m. till noon – lunch will be served, so we need a headcount so call the Granville County office.

Soybeans still not getting the height they need due to prolonged dry spells – the rains will help with that but still may not get to full height. Corn is doing well in most of the fields I have been in and the rain brought down the stress on the plant. In the corn, I am seeing some stinkbugs, but not like I saw 3-4 years ago. In the moth traps and stinkbug traps, the numbers are increasing. Army worm moth flights are up, so are black cut worm and tobacco bud worm moth counts. Stinkbug numbers are rising, but not very high per week. Scout your fields!
