Wednesday, July 21 from 9 a.m. till noon is the Oxford Research Station Tobacco Tour – call the office in Granville at 919-603-1350 or in Person 336-599-1195. This last week brought us more dry weather and all crops are behind on growth, and tobacco, corn, and soybeans due to earlier drought in April and May. Wheat yields are all over the board from 25-80 bushels per acre. The low yields mainly due to too much rain in November, December, January, and February. I am starting to see more insects like Japanese Beetles in corn, soybeans, and tobacco. Stinkbugs on corn, soybeans, and tobacco. The moth traps are showing increased levels in Black Cut Worm, and Tobacco Bud Worm. Army Worm, Corn Borer, and Stinkbugs are low to moderate numbers. Scout your fields check out what is happening!
