May 30th Crop Update

With the wet weather this is causing issues on finishing tobacco and soybeans plus delaying the start of wheat harvest. With all the rain and humidity tobacco producers need to watch for target spot and use fungicide at first layby. With all the wet weather producers need to scout fields for insects because of the southerly winds blowing in the moths. My moth counts on insects has been low. Another issue to be looking out for is stinkbugs in soybeans and tobacco. Stinkbugs damage leaves or can put holes in leaves not good for tobacco. The wheat crop continues to deteriorate watch out for head scab, rust, glume blotch and aflatoxin. Some wheat maybe sprouting in the head with all this rain. Weed control is another issue with all the rain  and not be able to get into fields weeds may get to tall and control may not be as effective.
